Alta aggressively recycles
Alta helps Mother Nature. Alta’s aggressive program to sort and recycle cafeteria-goers waste has been a hit with skiers, and the well labeled containers make it easy. Look for the three distinctive sorting containers in the Albion Lodge and pop your stuff into the right one.
One container takes cans and plastic water bottles. Another is for certain kind of wrappers that most of us think are waste. But surprisingly, Fritolay bags as well as the wrappers from Mars, Cadbury and Cliff bars are all recyclable and Alta is striving to keep them out of the landfill. The third container is for what’s clearly trash, such as dirty plates and napkins.
“We’re trying to reduce our carbon footprint as well as reducing what goes into the landfill,” said Sustainability Coordinator Maura Olivos. “We’re in the tourist industry and we’re trying to be good stewards. We’re constantly trying to educate people to help with our conservation effort.”
To help people get things into the right containers, the staff took photos and pasted them onto each container. Just match the picture and toss your waste into the right container.
