New Bloggers in Town

In keeping with their efforts to keep visitors and locals alike informed and entertained on all things snowsports, SkiUtah.com has made room on their website this season for a couple of exciting new blogs.

The “Powder Twins” are two 10-year-old ski enthusiasts from Utah County, Jacob and Anna Dutton, who wanted to see what it was like to have a job, and what better first job than one involving skiing! They brought the idea up with their father who contacted SkiUtah and the idea of twins blogging about Utah skiing from a kid’s perspective was born.

“We wanted to learn about business, see what it’s like to be part of something, and have a little fun this year,” said Jacob, “so we decided to do a ski blog.”

The pair have been skiing since they were 3, taking lessons to get it right from the start. Now that they are fifth graders, it’s time to move away from the ski school scene and venture out to spending some slope time with their father.

The twins are taking advantage of SkiUtah’s Fifth Grader pass, which, for a $25 processing fee allows any fifth grader to ski or ride three times free at each of Utah’s 14 resorts. They plan to take full advantage of the pass and hang out at all the resorts with their best skiing buddies: their family. “We’ve been to all 14,” Anna said.

The two have different perspectives as Jacob likes to go very fast (he even has aspirations of maybe heading to the Olympics someday) and Anna loves the being outdoors part of it all and especially weaving through the trees in fresh powder. But the one thing they have in common is the love of skiing and spending snow time with their family. Their blogging will include favorite runs, funny things that happen and the best places to come in from the cold.

Some of the perks for writing about their adventures in Utah’s snow include Rossignol skis and a GoPro camera. Jacob, enterprising new businessman, sent an email to GoPro and asked if he could get a camera to capture pictures and video for the blog. They loved the idea and sent him a GoPro.

Another new blogger is the “Park Rat,” Tom Haraden. He got the gig by winning a SkiUtah- sponsored Facebook contest. His winning pitch was a video of him and his friends having fun with snowboards, rails and air time. His first blog was on etiquette for crashing on a friend’s couch for an extended stay. The Maine native, and at least for this season, Utah resident, will share his experiences at Utah’s resorts and backcountry.

Both blogs will share stories and videos. Follow them on SkiUtah.com throughout the season.
